He is a fine actor, his movies, theatre and TV performances have all been very good but he is most widely know for his long term association with the Melbourne based soap 'Neighbours' where he has been a regular cast member since the early '80's. Stefan plays a character named Paul Robinson a bit of a dark shady character who has considerable resources and influence within the community he lives in, he is always looking to gain an edge in life no matter how he gets it. He is definitely portrayed as the bad boy of the show and Stefan plays the character very well.I believe in this painting I have captured the actor and a little bit of the charator that he plays. The painting was not chosen by the Archibald judges but was chosen to be exibited by 'The Hidden Faces of the Archibald' which will be on display in Jun/July in Melbourne. 2010 'One off the wood' Mr Bert Mc Lees at the Harrietville Hotel Vic. Bert is your average Australian country bloke, who has lived and worked in a small country town his whole life. Bert is fundamentally an old bushman he loves spending as much time as possible in the mountains, where he goes fishing, four wheel driving and in the winter months, deer hunting. Bert is typical of a lot of Aussie Bushmen, he has a rough exterior but a big heart. I decided to paint a picture of Bert about 4 years ago, but it was one afternoon at the Harrietville Hotel last year that inspired this painting. It was painted in 2001 around 10 years after the photos were taken, I wanted to create a painting from these pictures at the time but lacked the confidence to do so. I was very proud of my achievement when this painting was completed. The painting was entered into the Moran & Archibald portrait prizes in consecutive years, I was very hopeful, but both of the competitions had very good enteries these years and I didn't stand a chance.
